Volunteer at CFAD
We Can’t do it Alone
We invite all design professionals, individuals and organizations within our thriving creative culture and beyond, who embrace the importance of the built environment and design, to partner with us. Whatever your interests, we’ll find a place for you to become an active stakeholder in promoting remarkable design in our community.
We’re looking for volunteers to help with:
Help plan, present, and run workshops that introduce youth to the world of architecture and design
Each summer, CFAD, in conjunction with The Ohio State University – Knowlton School and Department of Design – and Columbus College of Art and Design, presents Camp Architecture and Design and High School Design Studio. Both programs are dedicated to introducing children and teens to design disciplines, as well as developing strategies to ensure that equitable access to camp and exposure to design professions is provided for all youths. We’re looking for camp directors and counselors, as well as design professionals, to help create and run engaging programs each summer.
Throughout the year, we also offer Design Pop! sessions, free, three-hour creative design workshops for young aspiring young designers in grades 3-8 on Saturdays, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Most sessions are held at CFAD, but if volunteers would like to host workshops at a community center, park or a library, our program can easily be transported to a new location. If you are a practicing designer or have a strong interest in design, we need volunteers to plan, present and run workshops.
Help build and curate exhibits in our beautiful downtown gallery space
Throughout the year, CFAD sponsors design-related exhibits in its gallery space, featuring our own presentations and programs, in addition to those from other central Ohio design colleges and design-related organizations, such as the Ohio Chapter American Society of Landscape Architects (OCASLA), Neighborhood Design Center (NDC), Columbus Society of Communicating Arts (CSCA), AIA Columbus, and International Interior Design Association Columbus (IIDA). If you like planning, curating and installing exhibits, we need you.
Be a stakeholder in connecting the public to Columbus’ design ecosystem
Each October, CFAD presents Design Month, a celebration of all things design in central Ohio. Whether it’s helping with developing and executing design tours, forums, receptions, promotion or social media, we need volunteers to help connect the public to design through a series of unique programs geared toward celebrating, educating and inspiring people about the import role design plays in Columbus. Our goal is to blur boundaries between disciplines through the cross-pollination of ideas and talents to raise awareness of the power of design and to leverage our creative economy.
