Design Talks – Codifying Development Patterns

June 5, 2014 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Design Talks

Approved for 1.0 HSW LU

The presentation will feature a panel discussion of the essential characteristics of use-based and form-based zoning codes, and the varied impacts of both on development within urban and suburban environments.  Concepts such as the urban-to-rural transect, regulating plan, and overlay district, and the relation of these to density will be highlighted and illustrated with examples, as will form-based typologies.  Contemporary traditional and un-traditional Columbus-area versions of historical typologies, such as mixed-use retail/commercial and multi-family residential, will be shown side-by-side.
