It all starts Oct. 14!
Design Week 2016 will kick off Friday evening, Oct. 14, at 6 p.m. at The Center with a reception for the opening of a new exhibit, ModernMadeOhio, curated by former Center board member and owner of Grid Furnishings Tim Friar. The Center exhibit will be a companion to a larger exhibit at the Hilton Columbus Downtown under the same name, also curated by Friar.
“ModernMadeOhio is a multi-site exhibition of modern furniture collections, designed and made in Ohio,” Friar said. “The common theme is Ohio furniture designers who have created individual design languages in the form of a visual vocabulary within a collection of production work.”
Exhibitors are 44 Steel, Avon; Bomb Factory Furniture, Lakewood; Domenic Fiorello Studio, Cleveland; John Strauss Furniture Design, Canton; Such + Such, Cincinnati; and Tronk Design, Cincinnati.
Another highlight of the evening will be the introductory screening of a Design Talks short film, Stories of Architecture in Columbus, featuring a series of interviews with various local residents, leaders and architects exploring four unique building in Columbus.
“I envision the video as a story that shows how different people are inspired by the architecture around them,” said Tim Lai, principal of Tim Lai ArchitecT and the video’s producer.
Earlier in the afternoon, (10/14 is a day off for many public school children in central Ohio), The Center will host a mini Camp Architecture session from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. for elementary and middle-school students.
